Location: Kraj Vysočina, okres Žďár nad Sázavou
Brief history
Graphite was found here in 1854 and mining reached its peak in the 1880s. After the World War I operations here stopped. Mining resumed in 1954 and continued until 1967, when it finally ended. There were two shafts, four chimneys and one adit to a depth of 120 m. 224 kt of raw material were extracted. The mining area was 120.6 hectares and was closed in 1984.
Type of activity
- Underground graphite mining using wall slicing and sub-level walling.
- Waste stored at a tailings impoundment and a dump.
Present-day conditions
The mine was dismantled and the surface complex handed over to the new owner for machining production.
The Environmental Problem and its Solution
