Location: The Olomouc Region, Prostějov area
Brief history
The site was first prospected from 1974 to 1984. It was opened by the Jindřich adit, 1,080 m on one horizon, and 584.5 m of crosscuts were made into a quartz vein of a thickness of up to 20.5 m. Into the soil 602 m away from the adit, a ventilation borehole was drilled to a depth of 52 m.
The total space dug out of the mine is approx. 9 800 m3. The mining site is unassessed and was declared a protected deposit territory in 1974. Remediation project was realized by the former national enterprise Geologický Průzkum Ostrava from 1979 to 1983 and then the site was taken over by former enterprise Rudné Doly Jeseník in 1984.
Type of activity
- Geological prospecting and the extraction of hand-separated quartz for semi-functional testing.
- The mining and processing of quartz for the manufacture of clear glass was never realized.
Present-day conditions
The mine has been dismantled and the adit’s mouth has been closed off with a concrete wall. A section of the adit beneath the Ludmírov – Dětkovice road has been secured with an atypical steel brace supported by concrete laths. Long-term monitoring is in progress.
The Environmental Problem and its Solution
Mine Water
The free flow of mine water from the adit is released into the Špraněk stream.
Tailings Impoundments
None.
Waste Dumps
The tailings pile (approx. 10,000 m3) has been cleared, the surface reclaimed with a cover of naturally seeded tree and grass vegetation.
